Try putting the object (painting) across from a wall of white peice or peice paper, then shine the light on that (paper/wall) so that it 'reflects' onto your painting. This will reduce the glare, and give you a better color definition. you might have to use a tripod though.

ah yeah :/ i don't have a tripod here, left it at my mother's. my apartment is also shit-small and there aren't any areas you can stand behind things. i think i'll just have to wait til i cart these all to mom's next spring and shoot them again there, lol.
