Description
Taken at Longwood Gardens in PA this past June.
This is a Century Plant from the "silver room" which featured all kinds of very light colored plants, many of them century plants...many of them bigger than myself even, which had a silvery effect to them.
It was very surreal to walk into this room.

I had this really long comment written out and then the computer lost it!
This is such a beautiful collection of curved shapes.
The century plant is very interesting. If it produces a terminal bud, then when it sends up a flower stalk, the stalk grows up to 25 feet high in just a couple of weeks, and then bears (usually) yellow flowers. The leaves wilt and droop (so I'm guessing this was a plant which was in the process of flowering), and send all of their vitality into the stalk. Then the plant dies. If the plant has a lateral bud, it will survive and flower again the following year. The juice of the Agave is very caustic. The natives ferment it for a long time, and treat it in other ways, and then use it to make tequila.
